The Nerd Herd:
In 2009 a group of co-workers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN decided to form a Relay for Life team. (Oh, did I mention they all worked in computer support?) Over the years team Nerd Herd has evolved. We’ve added friends and family from outside the tech field, but our goal has never changed. Raising money for the American Cancer Society. We’ve had various fundraisers: craft sales, garage sales, bake sales, jewelry sales, survivor bracelets, hats, scarves, raffle tickets, digital scrap books, waffle breakfasts and food truck sales. Pretty much anything we could think of to raise money.
In the course of the ten years we participated in the Relay for Life, we have raised $55,566.52 for the American Cancer Society.
Our Kubb Tournament:
In 2013 a few of us decided to take our love of playing Kubb and use that to help raise money to fight cancer. That is how Kubbing to Kick Cancer was born. June 15, 2013 the Nerd Herd held it’s first Kubb tournament at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Kasson, MN. Our goal was to have a 16 team tournament and the 12 teams that played made for a fun and successful day. Considering over half of the teams that came had never played before we thought we did great! By the end of the day, we had raised just over $1,100, Little did we know the Kubb Community is all about raising money for a good cause.
